A test conducted by a New York-based radiology group found artificial intelligence used in breast ultrasound examinations provides evidence that the software helps in cancer detection when using ultrasound and CT scans.
The tests took place over 18 months and included input from nine specialist and utilized AI software from Koios Medical.
Koios DS Breast 2.0 is an AI software that compares 450,000 breast ultrasound images with known results in to assist physicians with analyzing their own images for comparison.
The software reduced false positive biopsy rates as much as 20 percent.
Radiologists analyzed more than 6,000 diagnostic breast ultrasound exams and then used Koios DS Breast software. The FDA-approved software provides additional and more detailed findings.
The software increased the cancer detection rate (from 8.5 to 11.8 per 1,000 diagnostic exams).
There was also a significant reduction in benign biopsies, or false positives. The rate of false positives decreased 20 percent when using the software.
